ktm6 - CODY WEBB CLAIMS 2017 SUPER ENDUROCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP!

ONTARIO, Calif. – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Cody Webb was crowned the 2017 Super EnduroCross Champion on Saturday at the Ontario Endurocross, the final round of the series, in Ontario, Calif. He ended his season in winning fashion by claiming his sixth victory of the year. Teammate Kacy Martinez rode a solid race to finish second in the Women’s Class.

Webb got the holeshot from the inside in the Super EnduroCross Gate Pick and pulled away to take the win. He was second at the start of his first bracket race, then made the pass for the lead before the matrix to take the win. After winning his second bracket race, he got into the lead in his final bracket race and stayed consistent to take the win and earn the extra championship point.

He got out front in familiar fashion in the Super EnduroCross Main, but went down in the rock garden and fell back to fifth. He put on a charge and made it up to third the following lap, but made a slight mistake following lap after the wood pile that put him off the track and back one spot. He made the pass for third the next lap, then sprinted to second over the finish line jump and set his sights on the lead. He stayed consistent and, when leader Ty Tremaine got caught up in the No Joke Lane, Webb held his ground to take the lead and pull a gap. He stayed solid and took the No Joke lane with ease to maintain his lead, then rode strong to his sixth win of the season and the 2017 Championship. Congratulations, Cody!

Webb: “I’m so happy to get this win and the championship. This was a tough race. Ty got a great jump and I messed up the matrix right off the bat, then had a good tumble in the rocks, but it was a good battle. I just kept pushing really hard because I knew it was a long race. I was able to get by Ty when he took the No Joke Lane, and from there I knew I had to pull a gap because I hadn’t taken the No Joke Lane yet. I took it with two laps to go and was able to get the win. I really earned that one—it was tough. It was definitely a lot of action tonight. I’m so pumped to end this season with the Championship!”

Women’s rider Kacy Martinez pulled the holeshot in the Women’s Main and battled the difficult obstacles to perfection. She had a solid ride and finished second. She ends the season second overall.

Martinez: “The last round of Endurocross was a good one. I struggled with the track a bit in the beginning of the day during practice, but once I put in more time I got really comfortable. I was feeling confident for the main and pulled off another holeshot. I rode consistent with few to no mistakes and ended up with a second. I’m happy to end the season with a good ride!”
