Discontinued after Last Order Taken on May 1st, 2016

Honda officially announced that VFR1200F and VFR1200X are now discontinued on Honda’s official web site. There are total of 19 models to be discontinued besides those 2 models. There are several causes of the end of sale of these models such as new emission and noise regulations, reorganizing product lines, and so on.

Besides VFR1200F, there are only two tourer models left available which are made by the other manufacturers; FJR1300AS from Yamaha and Hayabusa from Suzuki.

Another VFR series models with V4 to symbolize Honda’s technology are VFR800F and VFR800X. Honda does not take orders for these models, but at least they are not discontinued at this stage.

As a symbol of Honda Technology, V4 engine boasts its factors as follows; engine displacement 1,236cc (World’s first throttle by wire on commercial motorcycles), SC64E with 76° cylinder bank, liquid-cooled 4 stroke 4 valve SOCH V4. It delivers the power for rear wheel drive with the shaft drive.

These models also featured “Dual Clutch Transmission(DCT) which was developed and practicalized with motorcycles for the first time in the world.

DCT model offered an optional change pedal kit for shift change with the left foot.

VFR1200F sport tourer, which had already been sold in Europe was finally released as a Japanese model in March, 2010.

As a successor of VFR(800), it was developed to be a model with a large engine displacement. Its frame was made of series’ traditional aluminum die cast and had a single-sided swingarm. Honda threw a lot of new plans and ideas to make it quality sport tourer for matured riders. The lowered seat was designed exclusively for Japanese model to be perfectly positioned to improve the ground-touch.

VFR series offered large motorcycles with VF750 engines, and featured engine and chassis characteristics which were suitable for long touring on highways, not to mention sport riding. These model gained significant support from expert riders in their forties and fifties.

As the 6th model of VFR series, VFR1200F was developed as a sport tourer for the next generation. It was loaded with the most recently developed largest V4 engine with the largest displacement in the series which were derived from Honda’s latest technology back those days.

It was the best tourer which was true to the successive VFR that Honda invested its best technology on. It boasted excellent sport performance and the long distance cruise performance with comfortable two-up riding option.

VFR1200X was developed as a new directionality under Honda’s crossover concept. Its development was expanded with the inspiration of adventure models which have been rapidly developed in recent years.

VFR1200X, which was released as a Japanese domestic model in March, 2014 had already been sold in foreign countries with the name of “Crossrunner”

In the same way as VFR800X MUGEN, VFR1200X MUGEN, and VFR1200XD MUGEN with DCT was released in June, 2016 as a special model to realize the sporty riding atmosphere. It was a limited sale at DREAM stores or MUGEN technical shops.

The main difference between Japanese model and oversea model are main stands, grip heaters, ETC in-vehicle unit as a standard equipment, and the seat height was 40mm lowered down to 810mm.

Also, the maximum output of the oversea model is 129ps, whereas Japanese model has 106ps.

Can We Get Them as “Reverse-imported”? Highly Evaluated VFR1200F/VFRR1200X

They have been highly evaluated overseas as large motorcycles which put more emphasis on characteristics as a tourer. They are better rated outside Japan, so they are listed as current models on Honda’s official international web site.

Now Honda stopped the production of these models in Japan and everyone wants to know what will be going on. RC213V-S, which was sold as a special machine, is loaded with V4 engine. However, what RC213V-S inherited from VFR is its spirit, not engines which had been aged from VF750.

After all, it is a shame that there will be no more motorcycles with V4 engines in Japan.
