[Webike Team Norick YAMAHA] All Japan Road Race Championship Series Round 6

* Tournament: All Japan Road Race Championship Series Round 6 Motegi 2&4
* Date: Sunday August 21, 2016
* Place: Twin Ring Motegi (Tochigi Prefecture)

Team Webike YAMAHA Takumi Kamiwada and Yuki Okamoto both competed in the J-GP2 class of All Japan Road Race Championship Series Round 6.

For Kamiwada, this race was held at the same place as he earned a prize in the previous race; for Okamoto, it was a race in both anxiety and anticipation because it was his first race since his comeback from injuries.

At the qualifying race, Kamiwada marked 1’54.667 in the last attack and placed 6th, while Okamoto finished 20th in 1’57.995 due in part to his machine’s bad condition.

In the final race, Kamiwada made a late start and lost his position from the sixth to the ninth, though, the level-headed driver raised his position to fifth in the sixth lap. His time was very close to the top group, so everyone expected him to earn a podium again.

As the top group speeded up, Kamiwada felt rushed and fell down in the 7th lap.

Kamiwada somehow got back to the race, but he ended up 19th. Okamoto finished 17th because of his machine’s bad condition and incomplete recovery from injuries.

Although this race did not reach a good result, Kamiwada highly demonstrated his growth.
Okamoto earned enough points to advance to the final round in Suzuka.
We are so excited to be able to see how the both young riders are growing by learning from each other.

The next race is Sunday September 25, in Okayama.
I hope for your continued support!

I could take some rides in the riding period prior to the race.
So, I was able to do various tests and set up the machine.
I was not in bad condition and had a good start of the race week.

In the qualifying race, I changed the tires into new ones at the end and broke into the 6th place.
I think that I should have changed the tires a bit earlier and started an attack, but I am happy to finish the race with a good feeling.

In the final race on Sunday, I could not make a good start and lost my position.
However, by passing one by one, I was able to raise my position to the 5th place.
At this point, I was driving in good condition and had enough energy to increase the speed. I was driving with thinking that I could join a fight for top if I continued increasing the speed!

I felt rushed when I saw the leading three motorcycles started speeding up, then I fell down at a hairpin curve.
I got back to the race immediately after I fell down and completed the race, but I ended up 19th.

My mental weakness caused this result. I was in good condition from the test and was confident that I could make it. Thus, I feel deeply frustrated.

I have clearly grabbed what I should do or what I have to overcome. I will keep trying my best toward the next round in Okayama so that I can make a tough ride and apply my experience to the future.

To supporters and fans who expected my good result, I am terribly sorry to let you down.
I will use this frustration as a springboard and do my best in the next race!
Thank you very much for your vast support!

Tamuki Kamiwada

I broke the numerus in the end of March.
The nerve got damaged, too. My grip strength dropped to 7kg. It recovered to 20kg after a hard rehabilitation training and muscle training.
After having taken some rides in some riding periods, I decided to compete in this race because I thought I recovered well enough for a race.

On the first day of the race week, I missed a chance to take a ride due to a machine trouble. I came into the qualifying race without finding my rhythm.
I could participated in the race thanks to machine mechanics who tried to fix my machine to the last moment. But, problems happened in the brake.
I couldn’t get a feeling of the machine and also find my rhythm in such a short time as 35 minutes; I ended up with the 20th place.

On Sunday. The brake was not fixed up even in the free-riding period before the final race. So, I had to come into the final with the machine having the brake trouble.

I made a good start in the final race and raised my position to the 12th or 13th through the 3rd corner. When I tried to overtake a machine in front of me at the 90-degree corner, I did too hard braking and got out of the course.
I largely lost my position.
I tried to stick to the leading group, but I got out of the course again and I failed to make tight curves at apexes. So, the distance between them and me got gradually farther.
I ended up with 17th.

This was my first All Japan Road Race Championship and my first 2&4. The race was very difficult.
My arm hurt, but I could complete the whole 22 laps that I hadn’t experienced before.
I also earned enough points for the final round in Suzuka.
I am deeply grateful to the team members, sponsors, fans and my family.
Although this race ended up with such a regrettable result, I will keep trying my best in one month so that I can get a satisfied result in the next race in Okayama.
I hope for your continued support!!

Yuki Okamoto
