Product Detail
[Description]
This is for Sportster with 5-speed transmission from 1991-2003.
This will replace the stock part "34492-91".
Gears do not shift into first gear smoothly.
Once you think you are in, gear out to go back in.
Gear that doesn't work well.
Rattle, rattle, rattle! And finally, the gear that goes in.
The structural weakness of the shift drum, the old-style detent plate, is a vicious cycle that drives the weakness and also wears out the dogtooth portion of the gear gears.
The coarse operation by the rider further adds to the problem and can lead to expensive repairs.
This manufacturer has mass-produced a product that we developed while racing with Buell in the past.
Gear change (shift operation) with many strokes.
Therefore, the "space" in the shift stroke was reduced, and the dimensions were revised to allow for smooth and quick shifting.
Narrow Shifter Pole" was designed.
When changing gears:
Toes touch the shift pedal
Start moving the shift pedal
The blank area (until it hits the gear) is stroked first
Finally, the gear change begins
This blank space has become smaller.
[Important] Adjustment of shifter pole
Follow the stock service manual for each removal / disassembly operation associated with shifter pole replacement.
However, in the case of shifter pole adjustment, the clearance values are different because of the different dimensions of the shifter pole.
The stock service manual says to use a 2.9mm diameter drill, but use a 1.5mm diameter drill.
Adjustment of the shifter pole is an important adjustment for smooth movement of each gear.
After adjustment and before assembling the whole unit, change gears several times and confirm that the gear change is smooth in both up stroke and down stroke from 1st gear to 5th gear.
In the 3rd gear position, adjust the shifter pole so that the clearance between the shifter pole and the shift drum pin is even at both ends.
Since the detent plate is hidden from view when it is installed, a hole is drilled in the detent plate so that it can be checked with a drill or the like.

Caution
*When replacing the shifter pole, gaskets, oil, and other replacement parts are required separately.
*We have not tested with shift drums other than the stock shift drum.Use only with stock shift drum.
*This does not correct a transmission that is already in trouble (worn gear dog parts, damaged shift drum / shift forks, etc.).
*Strongly recommending that you have a skilled mechanic perform the installation work.
*There may be changes in product specifications due to the manufacturer's reasons.
