[Q & A]
Q. When the vehicle key is turned on or the engine is started, the display does not show (LED light does not light up)
A. The positive wire or the negative wire may have poor contact.Check the wiring again.

Q. When setting the gear position, "5" is displayed
A. The display of "5" means "S", and there is a case that the speedometer signal is not taken.
After pushing the switch on the back of the unit three times, the shift lamp will blink "S" immediately after you put the unit into first gear, but if you start riding and the blinking "S" and the shift lamp disappear and the blinking dot appears and changes to the display of "1" a few seconds later, the unit has been registered without any problem.
If the S display continues to appear after you start running, please refer to the following.

For electric speedometers, check that the wiring is correctly connected to the speedometer wire.
Also, make sure that there is no poor contact between the wires.
In the case of a mechanical (cable) speedometer, check that the wiring from the optional PG-110 is correctly connected to the speed wire of the SPI-110.
Also, make sure that there is no poor contact between the wires.
Please make sure that the distance between the sensor and the magnet is within 3 to 5mm because "S" may appear if the PG-110 is installed incorrectly.
Also, make sure that the passage point of each magnet passes through the blue circle sticker attached to the sensor of PG-110.

Q.When setting the gear position, "R" is displayed.
A. The "R" display indicates that no engine speed signal is being received.
Check that the wiring is correctly connected to the tachometer signal wire.
Also, make sure that there is no poor contact between the wires.

Q.When setting the gear position, "F" is displayed.
A1. While driving, both the speedometer signal and the engine speed signal are not being obtained.Check the contact of each wire and the installation method.
A2. When the key is turned ON in a gear other than neutral, "F" will blink. In this case, put the vehicle in neutral gear and turn the key from OFF to ON, so that "F" will not be displayed.
A3. If "F" flashes even when the key is turned ON in neutral gear, the green wire of the shift indicator is not connected properly.Check the wiring diagram and connect it to the neutral switch.

[Questions and Answers about fitment and installation]

*Be sure to use a spark plug with resistance since it is not compatible with non-resistive spark plugs or caps.

Q: Can I install it in a Japanese spec vehicle that has been converted to full power by rewriting the ECU or modifying the harness?
A: Since this product uses speed and engine RPM signals, it can be used in a wide range of vehicles, both full-powered and stock, unlike products that connect to ECU diagnostic couplers made overseas.

Q: Is it possible to install a model that is not listed in the compatibility chart on the Protec website?
A: First, please call us atPlease contact Murano.TEL: (0)044-870-5001

Q: What is the (yellow) rotation signal in the wiring diagram in the manual?
A: Refers to engine rotation.Connect to an electric tachometer signal or ignition signal. It can also be connected to a pickup coil or injector as long as the pulses are equally spaced 5v or greater, synchronized with engine rotation.

Q: The ignition system is direct ignition, where is the engine rotation connected?
A: Connect to tachometer. If the system does not support tachometer pulse, connect it to the injector if the vehicle is an Fi vehicle.(If the tachometer pulse is not compatible with a carburetor vehicle, it cannot be installed.

Q: Connected to ignition coil in a vehicle without tachometer, but "R" error.
A: For vehicles with minus pulse ignition system such as SR400, TW, Celo, KLX, D Tracker, FTR, etc., the signal cannot be recognized as an engine RPM signal even if connected to the ignition coil, so please use the optional [PG-220N Pulse Generator] together.

Q: The neutral lamp switch is a (+) switch, but can I install it?
A: This product is compatible with a (-) neutral lamp switch on the vehicle side and not with a (+) switch.

Q: How do you attach the magnet when installing PG-110?
A: Use at least three magnets at equal intervals and attach them securely with adhesive. It will not work properly with unequal spacing or less than 2 magnets.

[Q&A about settings]
Q: The gear position display has stopped working and the number displayed does not change when changing gears and does not go to 0 when put in neutral gear. The ignition key is turned off and the engine is started again to operate, but after running for a while, the display stops working again.
A: If the symptoms do not improve after resetting the gear position, send it to Protec for inspection with the warranty card and a detailed description of the problem.

Q: Is it necessary to set the gear position for the vehicle-specific kit?
A: This is not necessary since the gear position registration is already set for the stock gear ratio. If even one sprocket has been changed, it must be reconfigured.
*Some vehicle-specific kits do not have a gear position.

Q: Can I set up an engine with a 6-speed transmission on a stock 5-speed vehicle?
A: If the gear position is set in the installed vehicle, 6th gear can be displayed.

Q: Can I set up an engine for a Monkey or Ape 4mini with an aftermarket transmission?
A: Basically, it is possible to set up to 5th gear, but in the case of an aftermarket transmission, it may not be possible if the gear ratios are too close. In addition, the SPI main unit for mini bikes (SPI-110mini No.11018) can only register up to 5th gear when converted to a 6-speed transmission.Use SPI main unit (SPI-110 No. 11014) for 5-6 speed.

Q: Is it possible to set the gear position without riding?
A: The wheel on the side with the speed sensor must be rotated.Vehicles with sensors on the front wheels are set by actually riding the vehicle. For vehicles with sensors on the rear wheels, set by floating the rear wheels on a center stand or the like.

Q: What is the engine speed when setting the gear position?
A: Do this at 3.000 rpm or higher.Settings can be made even if each gear has different rotation speeds.

Q: When I set the gear position setting from neutral to first gear, the "S" error and the blue light for SHIFT blinks?
A: An error message appears because the wheel with the speed sensor is not rotating, but if you ignore the message and rotate the wheel, the error disappears, changes to "blinking dots, " and the setting begins.

Q: I started running, but the "S" indicator and blue LED remain blinking and do not "blink dots".
A: Speed signal (white wire on SPI-110) is not connected properly, please check.

Q: I get an "F" error when I put it in first gear in the gear position setting and it changes to "R" when I start riding?
A: The engine rotation signal (yellow wire on SPI-110) is not connected properly, please check.

Q: I put the vehicle in first gear, start driving, and the dot keeps blinking and does not change and "1" is not displayed.
A: There is a problem with the speed signal. If PG-110 is used together with, please check if the magnets are not evenly spaced, if there are less than 2 magnets, if they have fallen off, or if the distance between the sensor and the magnet is more than 10mm due to vibration during driving, which may cause the magnet to be unable to detect magnetic force.

Q: Press the button on the back of the SPI main unit 3 times, put it in 1st gear and started driving, but the dot does not blink and "1" is displayed immediately.
A: The button has not been pressed correctly and is not in the setting state. While watching the main unit display, press the button three times and confirm that the display goes from "0" to "blinking dot" to "0".

Q: I could register from neutral to 3rd or 4th gear, but not after that.
A: If PG-110 is used, check if the magnets are not installed at equal intervals, or if the distance between the sensor and magnets is 10 mm or more apart due to vibration during driving, which may be the cause for not being able to detect magnetic force.

Q: SPI-HD1 When setting up for Harley, the "0" display remains unchanged even when the gear is put into 1st gear.
A: This symptom occurs when the green wire of SPI-HD1 is not properly connected to the switch side of the neutral lamp and is always connected to ground.Check that the green wire is connected to the neutral lamp switch. For correct connection, disconnect the yellow wire connection and confirm the display of "0" with the key ON, then press the setting button on the back of the SPI unit three times without starting the engine to see if the blue LED lamps for "F" and SHIFT blink in first gear after "0" → "dot blinks" → "0".If the "F" and SHIFT blue LED lamps are blinking, there is a failure in the serial data line such that the SPI cannot be recognized. In such cases, SPI-HD3 should be installed.

Q: Do I have to set the shift up indicator first?
A: The shift-up indicator is an optional registration and does not have to be set.

[Q&A on labeling]
Q: When the vehicle is stopped at a red light, etc., the display will show only "1" no matter which gear the driver puts the vehicle in by operating the shift pedal.
A: Since this product is a calculator that uses speed and engine RPM, the system will not display the correct gear position until the vehicle is running. The display method differs from that of the stock standard gear indicator.

Q: The display on the SPI main unit is too dark to see during the day.The display appears to be "8" when illuminated by strong light.
A:

Q: The display does not light up when the key is turned ON.
A: When installing with the universal SPI-110, check that it is installed correctly with red (+) and blue (-).If the red (+) and blue (-) wires of the SPI-110 do not light up when connected directly to the battery, please send it to Protec with the warranty card and the symptoms of the problem.

Q: If the key is turned ON while in a gear other than neutral, "F" will flash.
A: F is displayed because the speed and engine RPM signals are not input, but this is not abnormal.Once the key is turned OFF to neutral and turned ON again, "0" will be displayed.

Q: The displayed value changes even though the driver is not shifting gears while riding.
A: While the clutch is depressed, the correct calculation cannot be made, so a different gear position is displayed than the actual one.If the symptom occurs even when the clutch is not depressed, set the gear position again.

Q: Display time lag (delay) or discrepancy during gear shift change (a larger number than the actual gear position is displayed.)
A: Since this product is a calculator that uses speed and engine RPM, the correct display will not appear while the clutch is disengaged. While the clutch is disengaged, the accelerator is backed off, so it will display the upper gear at a higher speed at lower engine speeds.Once the clutch is connected, the display returns to the correct display. If you still feel discomfort, please set the gear position.

Q: In neutral, "0" appears and in other gears, only "1" is displayed.
A: This behavior occurs when the gear position is not set.Perform gear position setting. In the case of a kit for a model for which gear data has already been registered, the registered data and the reduction ratio of the vehicle are different, so please reset the data.

Q: The blue light on the shift-up indicator illuminates below the set RPM.
A: Ignition noise on the vehicle side may cause the light to come on at rpm other than the setting.

Q: One of the indicators "1"-"6" blinks while riding.
A: This product is not programmed to operate with flashing digits.Check for poor contact of the power supply line.

Q: The display remains unchanged at "0" even when put into a gear other than neutral.
A: Is the green wire of the SPI body connected to the wrong wire that is always body grounded?Connect to the correct neutral lamp switch wire.

Q: Neutral "0" display, "F" display when in any other gear.
A: There is a malfunction in the receiving circuit of the engine rotation signal of the SPI main unit.

Q: After changing tires, the gear position display is no longer correct.
A: If the tire size (outside diameter) is changed, the gear position must be re-set.If PG-110 is used, adjust the sensor and magnet.

Q: While riding in 5th gear, the display alternates between "5" and "6" at high engine speeds.
A: If you experience such symptoms with the '13-CBR600RR, you can solve the problem by using the WAC-OP04 (sold separately) in conjunction with the CBR600RR.

Q: The display does not light up or glows faintly in dim light, but the display lights up brightly when the dimmer sensor is illuminated.
A: This symptom occurs when the supply voltage to the main unit is 9V or lower.Input 12V power supply.

[Q&A about others]
Q: I have changed vehicles and would like to port the shift indicator to the new vehicle.
A: It can be used by purchasing a special harness kit (sold separately) and setting the gear position after installation.

Q: The LED lamp for checking PG-110 lights up even though the magnet is not close to it.
A: The PG-110 sensor will fail if +12v voltage is input to the white wire of the PG-110 sensor even once.In this case, the LED lights up even if magnetic force is not detected.

Q: After the shift indicator is installed, the speedometer on the vehicle side will display a value from 0km/h and up when the vehicle is stopped.
A: We have confirmed that such symptoms may occur with the SV1000, but if similar symptoms occur with other types of vehicles, use the optional [PG-110 Pulse Generator] without using the speedometer signal from the vehicle side.

Q: Installation of PG-110, magnet has no problem as per conditions, but only "1" is displayed while running and "S" blinks when setting.
A: The magnet's magnetic force may have decreased due to heat generated during braking after long-term use.Replace with a repair magnet set [MG-15] or a commercially available neodymium magnet.

Q: Is it possible to use an aftermarket electric speedometer sensor for shared use with SPI?
A: Can be used together with any sensor that outputs at least 5v and at least 3 pulses per wheel revolution. However, since connecting them in parallel may cause malfunctions on both the speedometer and SPI sides, it is basically recommended that the PG-110 be added without using them together.

Q: '91-TZR250R dedicated kit [SPI-Y34] was installed, but "R" error occurs.
A: The TZR250R uses the tachometer signal as the engine RPM signal, but it has been confirmed that the signal may not be recognized depending on the year and grade of the vehicle depending on the CDI specifications on the vehicle side.In this case, use the optional [PG-220N Pulse Generator].
