HONDA brought this flagship model to the market to achieve the world's fastest place. Its engine demonstrated 164 horsepower. It was a newly designed engine with a side cam chain to narrow its cylinder width.
Designers of this model created this bike with a free image to make it have further aggressiveness. It wasn't just a machine, but a vehicle that emitted an aura of an animal.
It mounted an engine of the XT500, which was remodeled for street use and was then mounted on the exclusive frame of this model. The tail design without a seat cowl and its raised type handle characterized the design of the initial 500.
It improved its maneuverability and fuel efficiency by altering the carburetor diameter from 28mm to 26mm. Its tank, side cover shape, and lower part design had also been changed slightly. Its model code is Z900A4.
It mounted the newly designed CVT engine which was water-cooled, 4-stroke, 155cm³, single-cylinder, 4-valve, and fuel injection type. While sticking with vibration reduction, it achieved 11kW (15PS) maximum output and had productive torque characteristics to make the bike drive in a sporty manner.
The final version of the 500SS came without the name MACH III. Its new frame made it easy to handle. It also had a translucent brake master cylinder tank.
The square four engine with two crankshafts and the rotary disc valve intake is the same as the RGB500. It is the genuine replica of the racer model with additional safety parts.
The extreme power, generated from the parallel 3-cylinder unit, rose the front wheel so easily. That shrew-like power that lasted up till its 3rd gear, made this initial model of the MACH 500 series so popular. Its quarter-mile speed, 12.4, was the world's fastest record indeed.
It was the first mass-production model to adopt a DOHC 4-valve head, It also adopted the 180 degrees crank that was beneficial for the high rotation. It was called the "4-stroke RX350" for its fast running ability.
