Did Dunlop’s latest tire “heat up”?! The 2018 New Tire “Road Sports 2” has been announced.

SUMITOMO Rubber Industries (Dunlop) announced the new tire in 2018 “Road Sports 2” in Tokyo. This product is a sports radial that further developed the compatibility of grip and long life, which is a characteristic of road sports. Noteworthy is the two-layer tread structure newly adopted by the company for rear tires “Performance Compound Layers (PCL ).

By PCL which changes the compound of the surface layer and the deep layer, it becomes a structure which exerts and maintains excellent grip performance from the time of new article to the time of wear.

Prior to the launch of Road Sports 2, Mr. Shunji Yashiro (right) and Mr. Kitagawa Keiichi (left), who test-rides the same product, are present. Impression talk on each performance updated from the conventional product was also made.

“Compound of the second layer” causes the tire to generate heat

Adopted “New Polymer” highly bonded to silica for the compound of the surface layer (first layer) to be the ground plane. Adhesiveness to the road surface was further improved, and grip and abrasion resistance were enhanced.

It should be noted that the second layer is a deep compound. By adopting fine particle carbon for racing in this part, improving heat generation grip (grip due to rubber heating). In conventional products, reduction in rubber volume due to wear has reduced heat generation grip, but in Road Sports 2 the above-mentioned PCL structure was updated to show stable grip performance from new to worn.

Keywords are rubber reaction force!

The key to encouraging fever in deep compounding is the difference in reaction force of rubber used. Rubber with high rolling resistance is used for deep layer compound to suppress lowering of grip force and to maintain stable supply of heat to the surface layer.

Difference between surface layer rubber and deep layer rubber used in products. Deep rubber with high rolling resistance is difficult to splash and hard to roll. This resistance generates heat and exerts excellent grip.

The product sets the front 2 size, the rear 5 size. It was scheduled to be released on March 1 at an open price. Of course, besides the compound, it updates entirely with newly developed structure & design.
