The Real Adventure Model with Enhanced Offroad Performance
At last, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro from DUCATI will be released in Japan in July.
As you can see from the name ”enduro”, it is an adventure model with base model Multistrada 1200S enhanced with offroad performance. The 1200S offers a lot of off-road activity itself. Then what are the aspects that have made this model so special? Let’s take a look at the differences one by one.
High Specifications Inherited from the 1200S and Durability to Withstand Rough Dirt Roads
The vehicle is mounted with water-cooling DOHC 90 degrees L Twin Engine with 1,198cc displacement and 150HP/9,500rpm, 128Nm/7,500rpm maximum power and torque equivalent to the 1200S. The DUCATI Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) will provide smooth and high torque at both high and low rpm.
However gear ratio differs from 1200S and is set at lower 1st gear ratio compared to 1200S. This is to achieve traction response at small throttle opening and acceleration emphasis equivalent to motocross models.
The ”4 bikes in 1” concept remains to assemble four categories into one model. Among the four riding models, the ”enduro” mode will offer power performance and traction control on rough dirt roads. By using ABS control, power sliding and brake turns can be used in purpose.
Other electric devices such as Cornering ABS, Cornering Light (DCL), DUCATI Traction Control(DTC) DUCATI Willy Control (DWC) have been inherited from the 1200S.
The topic of the new model is the new Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) which supports the vehicle when accelerating at hills. It will hold the brake for a constant time by pulling the brake on either front or rear side. It is effective on hills because it will function like the side brake.
It will come in handy especially when you are climbing steep slippery offroad slopes.
Designs are Emphasized to Offer Run-through Performance and Mobility on Off-road
The greatest difference is the underpart of the vehicle. The Enduro is standardly mounted with SACHS Electronic Control Semi Active Suspension called DUCATI Skyhook Suspension Evolution (DSS EVO) and will instantly offer ultimate settings whether it is off or on.
The Enduro has 200mm stroke that is 30mm longer than the 1200S.
Also, front tire has been enlarged 2 inches and is 120/70-19; rear tires are 170/60-17 with width reduced two sizes down. They are focused to offer run-through performance and mobility on offroads.
The swingarm has been modified from single-sided to double-handed. The wheel has also been modified from cast to wire spoke to improve impact resistance. The vehicle is transfigured with typical offroad specifications.
Due to the Offset Leading Axle and extended Swing Arm, the wheel base has also been extended and sharp details concerning body dimensions have also been changed.
Ground clearance has been raised allowing the seat to be raised 30mm to 850mm high. Handlebars have also been raised in consideration of offroad conditions.
Newly Designed to Offer Comfortable Motorcycle Rides
The new model has been fully redesigned. Cowls have been redesigned to match the 30 liter tank (1200S has 20 liter tank) fuel tank that allows the vehicle to ride 450km with no oil supply. Extended front beak and mud guard are installed to prevent mud. There is also an aluminum plate placed on the side cowl.
It is also equipped with the same LED cornering lights as the 1200S that lights up in response to leaning angle and 5 inch Color TFT Liquid Crystal Display. Besides smartphone and music device functions that can be used via Bluetooth, information and data of the motorcycle can be analyzed using a special application and shared on the SNS. You will be surprised to see the enriched equipment the vehicle is equipped with to offer comfortable bike rides.
